Roxanne Shante, first female of the World Famous Juice Crew, set hip hop on fire with the UTFO answer track “Roxanne’s Revenge” her cracky voice and out of the world confidence made everyone take note.
When Shante came out she wasn’t looked at as a “Female emcee” she was looked at as another emcees, she was seen on the same level as her peers and battled (and defeated) them all the same. Her battle on wax with UTFO, Sparky D, and KRS One are things of legend
Her freestyles with Biz markie are classic street tracks … the Roxanne Wars/Saga is still one of the biggest things to ever happen to hip hop to this day.
