If you’ve read my blog before or follow me on Twitter, you know that I blame Mary J Blige (and Puff) for killing R&B
Briefly, Before “What’s the 411!?” There was next to no blending of ‘Hip Hop’ Beats with Soul singing … after that it became a staple
She even had a Remix album … once that happened R&B was never the same, it all melded to Hip Hop w/ singing …Soul tracks and singing with meaning and differing topics was all but gone
… Anyway, maybe that’s another post
THIS is my Top 5 Favorite Mary J Blige songs of all time
Ironically no songs from What’s the 411 appears on the list, despite me LOVING that CD … and 3.5 of the 5 coming from My Life (Everyone knows that’s her best CD)
…also know, I gave up on MJB after “Share My World” and officially stopped caring after she uttered the words “Hateration”, “Holleration”, and “Danceree”
Anyway, here’s #my5
5. You bring me Joy
The Second song on My Life “Some try to play me, but they can’t fade me” … I was like wow lol the track is crazy on the breakdown too
4. I’m going down (Remix)
I couldn’t stand the Original “I’m Going Down” song on My Life, honestly never cared for the real song either … but the remix!? The Remix is one of her best songs ever! Over the B.I.G/Meth track for “The What?” She rocks it
3. Don’t Go
If New Edition never existed Guy would be my favorite group of all time, the sample of “Goodbye Love” on this track roped me in, everyone knew I was going to love this as soon as it came on
2. Mary Jane (All Night Long)
My Life is crazy! Mary Jane was the first song after the Intro and set off the whole album I love the twist on the classic Mary Jane Girls song … the line “What I got is better than Money” got me!
1. You don’t have to worry
This joint came on the What’s the 411 Remix Album, it’s the only song on there that was NOT on the original Album … she had a video for it though
*You gotta believe
I wanted to add this but since it’s a duet, I disqualified it … this is for all Solo
