Eclectik 10: Favorite Movies of all time

November 8, 2006

1A. Krush Groove

“There’s been a whole lot of superstars on this stage here tonight, and I just want you to know one thing…this is MY MUTHAFUKN HOUSE”

Guess because I’m a ‘hip hop head’ I dunno but I LOVE this movie; I have to know 90% of it by heart

Stars: Run-DMC, The Fat Boys, Shelia E, LL cool J
If you look close enough you’ll see Chris Rock

Favorite Part: Pissed off Run saying “this is my muthafukn house” and starting ‘It’s like that’

Least favorite: Blair Underwood period…esp he and Sheila.

1B. Brown Sugar

“Dre I need you to be happy for me. I need you to be there for me, just like you asked of me. So – so I can have tea and eat cucumber sandwiches with the crust cut off!”

Basically the movie of my life (sans the Girl) It’s a Hip Hop Story…Old school Hip Hop Love story; I can’t get enough of this movie…it’s what my life is like/should be like

Stars: Sanaa (mmmm # on my top 10 list), Nicole Ari Parker, Mos Def but what’s better!? Kool G Rap, De La, Slick Rick, Dana Danem Doug Fresh (sigh)…even had the Hip Hop Dalmations!

Favorite part: The Old school cipher with the Get Fresh Crew, and the park bench scene where they just talk about Hip hop and trade verses
(Plus Taye Diggs had a KICK ASS name)

Worst Part: Dunno…maybe the shooting pool scene with Andre and Reese

2. Boomerang

“Gold star for Marcus”

THE movie…after I saw this movie I ahd every plan on living my life to mimic this movie …and still some to this day; I love the black professional successful dude…the bad ass chicks, the slammin place
living in a big city…the whole shabang
…and Robin Givens……
ROBIN Muhfkn Givens!

Best Part: You already know…Jackie shows up in the coat and …yup! Other than that, when she wanted to watch the game (sports…so sexy)…NO the Kissable commercial with the banana and cherries

Worst part: Gerald and Angela…wackness…and when Marcus got flipped on…my man shouldn’t have had to go out like that…got Halle though!

4. Breakin II: Electric Boogaloo

“Girls are whack, man!”

Again, old school to my bones…the only movie I’ve seen more times than Breakin II is Krush Groove, Grease and Pretty Woman (shhhh)
They had to go save Miracles!

Stars: Kelly (Lucinda Dickey), Ozone (Adolfo Quinones) and Turbo (Michael Chambers)
If you paid any attention you’d notice Ice-T

Favorite Part: Turbo dancing on the ceiling and later falling down the stairs

Least Favorite: the Kelly ish with her parents (And 2 grown men wearing the mesh half tops)

5. Godfather II

“Roth and the Rosatos are on the run…You’ve won. You want to wipe everybody out?” Michael answers, “I don’t feel I have to wipe everybody out, Tom. Just my enemies, that’s all.”

THE CLASSIC if it didn’t exist Godfather I would be here in this spot! Michael in present day and the Flashback of Vito in the same movie
The writing, the action and the story…no other movie I’ve ever seen has done it better.

Stars: Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and Robert De Niro

Favorite Part: So many! Mike calling the shots though
And When he found out that Fredo was the Traitor

Least Favorite Part: The End and Vito not being around

6. Coming to America

“They got the Big Mac, I got the Big Mick. We both got two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles and onions, but their buns have sesame seeds. My buns have no seeds.”

Probably on the favorite list of everyone I know (and probably higher up) Outside of RAW probably the funniest Eddie Murphy Film…I have the Soul Glo song as a ring tone

Stars: Eddie Murphy , Aresenio Hall, John Amos, Louie Anderson on Lettuce, and if you pay attention you’ll see Samuel Jackson, Jamie Fox, and Cuba Gooding Jrs first scene in a movie

Favorite Part: Anything at the Barbershop…oh and the ‘washing’
Worst part: Anything with the Little sister. She was wack

“I have recently been placed in charge of garbage… When you think of garbage, think of Akeem!”

7. Godfather I

“Hey, listen, I want somebody good – and I mean very good – to plant that gun. I don’t want my brother coming out of that toilet with just his dick in his hands, alright? ”

THE movie that started it all…THE CLASSIC, anytime I’m feelin’ whatever…bored or have some time I love to watch the original.

Stars: Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Diane Keaton, and Robert De Niro

Best part: Damn…The Restaurant scene…Moe Green, and the Hostpital spot where he had to move Vito.

Worst Part: Sonny’s Death or Chasing after Kay, she was wack…the only drawback to the movie..Loved when she was down the hall and they closed the door.

8. Eddie Murphy: RAW

“Suck this and MF and kiss my BIG BLACK STUFF, and suck it and stick it downnn ya Mouth Suck it suck it”

I ‘spose I’m a big Eddie Murphy fan (least I was) I remember I walked like 5-6 city blocks to see this movie, me and the fellas went out to peep it
Back when There were Rated R flicks …and back when it was acceptable to go to the movies with guys
Granted we were underaged but in the hood…no one cared.
The only movie I ever went to see at the theater where I almost dies (I litterally couldn’t breath after a couple of jokes)

…that and when it was over some drunk dude was doing donuts in the parking lot and almost ran us over.

Stars: Eddie Murphy in purple Leather and gloves…with a ring over the glove…yeah. If you paid attention Tatyana Ali, Bud (cosby Show) and Sam Jack again

Best part: I do NOT know…maybe the ‘House/Welfare burger’ or the ‘1/2 “Mr. Fuck you man” ‘ bit.
Worst part: Maybe the last joke went too long but it was still funny.

9. 5 Deadly Venoms
“Poison clan rocks the world!”

This movie WAS my youth when I was younger I saw this movie SO many damn times it’s crazy…Kung Fu Theater was a STAPLE like Saturday Morning Cartoons…
I remember when I was in college I met this girl that actually liked/knew Kung Fu flicks I SO hearted her…we’d actually sneak into the Dorm room just to watch them on VHS

The five deadly venoms are The Centipede, The Snake, The Scorpion, The Lizard and The Toad.

Best Part: When they revealed their styles and the other guys noticed/peeped them out

Worst Part: When #6 killed them all…ugh And the Movie Return of the 5 Deadly Venoms had little to nothing to do with the original.

10. Grease

“Grease is the word”

I know…don’t ask.
I don’t think there’s a movie I’ve seen more times (again don’t ask) I know like every part of this movie.
I wanted to be in a gang so bad after I saw it LOL!

Stars: John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, Stockard Channing, Jeff Conaway, Didi Conn

Best Part: Either the ‘Summer Nights’ joint, Cha Cha, or the Race….damn or the Carnival. NO The title song

Worst part: the Hopelessly devoted ish…and they made such a terrible part 2..oh and they were MAD old to be playin high schoolers

10 That missed the cut:

Pretty Woman
Scarface
Bustin’ Loose
Love and Basketball
School Daze
The Last Dragon
The Wiz
The Killer
Disorderlies
New Jack City
The Toy
