NO the voice is NOT the illest…at all….but it’s passable and we accept that she’s not going to belt out any notes nor is she going to perform the national anthem
But Damnit if her songs dont kick ass.
Here’s why I’m givin her the status (This is just modern day Era mind you)

She has classics (Control and Rhythm Nation, Velvet Rope)

Sold more than 90 million albums worldwide and 35 million singles worldwide

She’s: Big Gulp + Goodies+ Aaliyah+ Yonce’s appeal …if she had a Strong/Good voice she’d be THE all time greatest…but for now? As far as I’m concerned she’s the illest that’s ever done it in the Pop era.

Janet has withstood the test of time. She doesn’t have Whitney’s voice (pre-crack and booze), nor MJB’s street appeal, nor Aaliyah’s beauty. But dammnit, Penny Gordon is STILL fly! I agree 100%….great post….and she was able to do all that without THAT much personal drama..I mean she can’t help what her BROTHER did/does, not her fault about Latoya and all her brothers and sisters…she still managed to stay SANE after alladat…and funny you should mention VELVET ROPE that was my fav bestest tour EVER! …and she was so HAWT in SCREAM Collabo with MJ.
