Hip Hop

Gotta love Hip Hop Week on eclectik-relaxation

It can be sad though…see? After listening and Woppin and runnin my man to all the songs on the rotation
It’s more and more obvious to why ‘rap’ music sucks armadillo ass these days

Seriously…listen to the songs

They are all light hearted, fun…and ALL DIFFERENT!

You got a song about a party, then a song about men trying to get with women…then a song about picking your nose!

And even then the songs about men trying to get with women…not lewd, objectifying, or vulgur
Just a cool ass song

The other thing is back then emcees tried to uplift/teach/educate whether it be about:

Going to school/ College
Achieving your goals
Religon
History
Self esteem mess

ALL while rockin the fuk out the party!

Hip Hop (WAS) the only form of music that taught you something and made you think while you danced and sung along

Also it was a tell tale sign of what was going on in society and upbringing…the emcees were smart!
The words they used, the way they put them together…personifications, allegories, etc

Theses days they are not smart enough to make you think, everything is blantant and litteral
…it’s the audience too, the short attention spans and simple minds that want the info right now and dont want to have to be made to think

I’m too intelligent to enjoy todays rap music
…it’s not because I’m incapable of sitting and enjoying it for what it is; I know what it was, what it should, and what it could be that it insults my intelligence

The beats were so simple…you know why? Because the stenght of the songs were the lyrics; you didn’t need to get fancy you could throw on an instrumental and just get it in

But the biggest thing is the different types of songmaking and rhyme writting…sure you have differences now but are they all successful?
Lil Wayne is really the same as Kanye as far as subject matter…same as 50 Cent and JayZ…all 4 of them same shit
Different would be The Roots…Common…maybe Outkast and Nas; same success? Nahhhh…close? Nope

Not even the same fanbases

MOST people that would like 50 cent …probably dont fuk with Common like that or the Roots

Back then though NWA fans liked Biz Markie and Liked The Fresh Prince and like Slick Rick with no problem

Because it was all good music and it was different and fulfilled a need…now you can pick a person you want to hear..and get the same information that 88% of everyone else is going to give you
Fuck it’s even the same production!

KRS One wasn’t going to have a LL beat…Run DMC wasn’t going to have the same mixes as Dana Dane

This type of music is timeless…that’s why it can be a hip hop week because any year you can bring these out and they rock
If people are too young and didnt know abou these songs when they came out…a music fan can listen to them and understand

A person who’s ear is only tuned into a hot beat and some buzz words might think it’s wack…I dunno.

I could talk and type about Hip Hop for days

Stopping by via Brianna’s blog. Interesting post…I’ve read a few others before and decided to comment today…

I much prefer Common over 50.

Are you like me and hate when ppl even call today’s form of rap music Hip Hop?
I think in the late 90’s it became the pesky little brother or sister to Hip Hop as we know it and now-a-days… it’s just a 4th or 5th cousin you’ve never met. Better yet, it’s the cousin that isn’t really blood related but your grandmother keeps telling you that’s your cousin JUST because ya’ll from the same town- that’s today’s rap. I call it crap rap or hip pop cause that’s all it is.

Now let me see you runnin your man šŸ˜‰

i’ve spent 10 minutes trying to put ANY of KRS-One’s rhymes to an LL beat. It is simply not possible.
