Top 10 Overlooked Point Guards

February 11, 2012

Even though I’m not a real NBA fan these days I use to love the game… so I was thinking about players who are sometimes overlooked for being dope; this time point guards.
I’m not talking Magic, Zeek, or even Penny for that matter … the ones that NEVER come up when you’re talking who was nice back in the day … some that had the stats that went overlooked and some that didn’t have the stats at all but were just ice and you didnt want to play against them lol

So this is my top 10 all Unappreciated NBA Guards of all time lol

10. Michael Adams

0 NBA Championships
0 All Star games

Mike always looked like he had a secret lol

My man first season he averaged 2 points, the second season over 25 and 10 assists and dropped 54 on the Bucks … dude was 5’9″ at best lol
For that size and what he was doing, you didn’t want to mess with him like that

9. Vernon Maxwell

2 NBA Championships
0 All Star games

Mad Max!!! With the Rockets he was EXTRA clutch from the arc, they had a squad back then … you just didnt want to heckle him … you’d catch n eye jammie

… Like TRICK! Put on my jersey and go slang dem Wangs for daddy!!

8. John Lucas

0 NBA Championships
0 All Star games

Hard to believe but true, Lucas is not decorated as far as awards but he was nice … despite resembling George Jefferson and Larry Blackmon’s love child
John was dropping 16 points and 9 assists a game in the 70s
He might’ve won more had he not been Rick James’n it off the court lol

7. Nick Van Exel

0 NBA Championships
1 All Star game

14th All time in Three Pointers made

Van Exel was the “HEAD” guard in charge for a while lol

Nickey Maxwell “Nick” Van Exel never won a title but he put in work taking up the mantle after the GOAT PG left …
Nice from behind the line, could pass, extra fast … and never averaged 3 Turnovers a game
Had 23 Assists in one game … Very underrated

6. Mark Price

0 NBA Championships
4 All Star games

29th All time in Assists per game

Mark Price reminded me of that kid that had the hoop on his garage, and would go in the house when he started losing lol

Since I grew up in Ohio I saw more Mark Price than a lot of people, he was a deadly shooter … wont the 3 point shootout twice no less … if it weren’t for Geoffrey he might’ve been able to play in the big dance.
NOBODY could split double teams like Mark

5. Rod Strickland

0 NBA Championships
0 All Star Games

9th all time in assists
24th all time in steals
Dropped 20 Assists in one game

Stricklands eyes looked like he consistently had 5 on it … at all times lol
Real NBA Fans … or deep fans give Rod his props, more so Knick fans or people from NY but he still goes overlooked a lot
Rodney “Rod” Strickland did lead the league in assists in 98 though

4. Maurice Cheeks

1 NBA Championship
4 All Start Games

10th All time in assists, 5th All time in steals, 12th All time in steals per game

Hard to get shine when Dr. J is on your team AND Moses Malone … then Barkley lol
His stats weren’t blazing but he was steady and dope

3. Terry Porter

0 NBA Championships
2 All Star Games

13th All time in assists, 26th All time in steals

Terry always looked like he could make some MEAN BBQ to me

Those Blazer teams seemed like they were all Drexler but without Porter the Lakers would’ve never played them all those times in the WCF … and definitely wouldn’t have made the Finals (Unfortunately Geoffrey struck again! lol)
Porter was one of the most low key dopest scoring point guards in the 80s and 90s

2. Mookie Blaylock

0 NBA Championships
1 All Star Game

11th All time in steals, 6th All time in steals per game

Mookie Blaylock is an Cultural icon son! Pearl Jame were originally going to name their group “Mookie Blaylock”!
Led the NBA in Steals two years in a row and in Three point attempts
He holds mad Hakws records for Three pointers … made, attempted, all time.. single season
Extra nice on the video games back in the day too … tough Defense

1. Alvin Robertson

0 NBA Championships
4 All Star Games

#1 In Steals ALL TIME, 9th All Time in Total Steals

The All Time overlooked Point Guard!
This is the ONLY Guard to record a Quadruple Double son! 20 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists and 10 steals!!!!
People next to never bring him up as far as being nice with it, but he had a ill shot and some killer defense (NBA Defensive player of the year ’86)

Shoutouts to: Damon Stoudamire, Sedale Threatt, and Robert Pack
