eclectik review: Untitled

August 10, 2008

Not enough people talking about the Nas release…mainly because it was a ‘grown up’ CD with actual thining involved….
Figured I’d give it an eclectik review

Queens get the money: Perfect Intro…I miss when lyrics were the main focus

“They pray please God
Let him spit that “uzi in the army lining”
That shorty doo wop rollin’ oowop’s in the park reclining
Take 27 MC’s, put ’em in a line and they out of alignment
My assignment since he said retirement
Hiding behind e-mail??? and the chronic
Gets rich but dies rhymin’
This is high science
Now add 23 more
From Queens to B-More
I’m over they heads
Like a bulimic on a see-saw”

You can’t stop us now: Banger, the track is hot… Banger, the track is hot…”Bad attitudes
Octaroon skin tones
Slave food turned to soul food
Collards and neck bones
Betsy Ross sewed the first American flag
Bet she had a nigga with her to help her old ass”

Breath: If I actually smoked anything, I’d smoke it to this song LOL…makes you wanna drive somewhere with the windows down

Make the World go Round: Song is SLAMMIN, Love this song…prolly my fav on the CD (Even IF that asshole is on it)

“No ,less Romo
you tryin’ a shine up on with the nine on your jersey for promo
Jessica Simpson that’s so-so
Nick warner’s baby back wit — lo so.
Devil white 5-0 they catch me at the pro bowl
On the field diamonds choking the jockey on my polo”

Hero: I LOVE Hero, it’s the best attempt at spittin and making it appeal to this wack ass generation…the beat and the lryics are killin it
…the hook too

This sums it up….

“They said, Nas, why is he trying it?
My lawyers only see the Billboard charts as winning
Forgetting – Nas the only true rebel since the beginning
Still in musical prison, in jail for the flow
Try telling Bob Dylan, Bruce, or Billy Joel
They can’t sing what’s in their soul
So untitled it is
I never change nothin’
But people remember this
If Nas can’t say it, think about these talented kids
With new ideas being told what they can and can’t spit
I can’t sit and watch it
So, sh!t, I’ma drop it
Like it or not
You ain’t gotta cop it
I’m a hustler in the studio
Cups of Don Julio
No matter what the CD called
I’m unbeatable, y’all”

America: Not a song you’re gonna roll around blastin, but again DEFINTELY something to listen to.

“How could I not be dead
This old German
Said I was a thug with a notty head
Looked at my Benz and called that a Nazi sled
With a face like he wonder where I got my bread
Probably all these stones he see
From my shows overseas
From crime to rhyme
My stories is I’m from the home of the thieves–America”

Sly Fox: Pretty funny goin aginst Fox and The Post etc etc “I watch CBS and I See B.S.”

“They say I’m all about murder, murder and kill, kill
But what about Grindhouse and Kill Bill?
What about Cheney and Halliburton
The backdoor deals of oil fields
How is Nas the most violent person?
Y’all don’t know talent if it hit you
Bringing up my criminal possesion charges wit a pistol
I use Viacom as my firearm
To let the lyrics split you
Who do you rely upon”

Testify: Smooth song…good sample, makes you nod your head real slow…

“Don’t buy my songs
Y’all don’t roll with it
Coming to concerts
Singing “ho” and shit
Fuck ya all little-little ho bitches
I don’t need y’all
I’ll go gold with it”

THAT’S what’s up!

N.I.G.G.E.R.(Slave and Master): Another smooth beat and dope lyrics, I love the message in this one…he kills it

“Yeah, I’m from the ghetto
With old black woman talkin’ bout their sugar level
It’s not unusual – to see photos of dead homies’ funerals
Aluminum foil on TV antennas
Little TV’s sit on top the big TV, eating TV dinners
Girls dye their hair with Kool-Aid
They gave us lemons, we made lemonade”

Do I mean it like the slave master: “NIGGER”?
No, I’m Gangsta, Gotta Eat Rappers

Untitled: Prolly my leaast favorite song…not crazy about the beat and the vocal sample but again the lyrics are on point

Fried Chicken: Clever song…I questioned havin Busta on it…but he fits:

“After you shower
You and your gold medal flour
Then you rub on with hot oil for half an hour
You in your hot tub, I’m looking at you salivating
Dry you off, I got your paper towel waiting”

….Ain’t that some shit?, I’ma eat some shit…Until what I’m eating KILLS ME!
And I choose to do that. Why?….Cause that’s just what niggas do

Project Roach: The guy is the best at personification…almost like “I gave you power” Nas as a Roach
I would’ve prefered an actual chorus instead of the sample…coulda been longer and a banger:

“An insect with four legs
People come and I fake dead
Correction, I got eight legs
Climbing on top your plate, bed
Wherever I smell food
It could be even jail food
Stale food that’s molded
A roach is what I am fool”

Yall my Niggas: Damn real…the Chorus says it all

“Tryin’ to erase me from y’all memoryToo late, I’m engraved in history (I’m here my niggas!)
Speak my name and breathe life in me, Make sure y’all never forget me (‘Cause y’all give me life!)
‘Cause y’all use my name so reckless Whether to be accepted or disrespected (And I love it!)
And I love it, especially when y’all do it in public And I’m the subject
‘Cause y’all my niggas”

We’re not alone: Cool song…nothing eye poppin but I like the chorus on it…the lyrics of course hotness

Black President: I coulda done without the 2Pac Sample..and the Singin by DUDE But decent joint

“Never defeated
So a president’s needed
Y’know these colored folks and Negroes
Hate to see one of their own succeeding
America, suprise us
And let a black man guide us”

Overall…a dope CD, that no one will pay any attention to, but prolly the illest one to come out all year
The Hype for it coming is bigger than the interest of the actual deliverable…and thats a shame

I give it 4 e’s 🙂
Now go cop it

i can’t stop listening to it. i love this joint, e. one of nas’ best cds by far!!

btw…Hiding behind e-mail??? and the chronic

it’s hiding behind 8 Mile and the Chronic.

That verse…he’s talkin’ about Fiddy centz. He dissed him. I think he did it so clever that Fiddy don’t even know that he was dissed. Maybe one of his G-Unit flunkies will tell him.

  • Korey
