Wrestling in the 80s was the greatest, a part of that were the wrestling segments that happened to give a spark to feuds … start feuds, or allow wrestlers a different venue to give promos instead of your typical backstage segments
What I wanted to do was countdown my favorites from back in the day, I didn’t include the newer ones (Highlight Reel, Carlitos Cabana, etc) I went with the “Classics”
Anyway, lets get with it!
10. Kings Court
Jerry Lawler
I cannot stand Jerry Lawler, never have never will, this segment gets props because the guests would gang up on each other and sometimes they would beat The King up lol Brett Heart vs. Big Daddy Disel, Jeff Jarrett vs. Disel, Owen Hart vs. Brett … they had great feuds on it even if the host was terrible.
9. The Body Shop
Jesse “The Body” Ventura
The Body Shop was Jesse Ventura’s interview segment, I was never a fan of the body outside of commentary and not really then lol His segment had no set, just some fake walls and pictures on them. No one ever got into fights on the Body Shop, but it was great for managers and wrestlers who could do things on the mic … latter they had Don The Rock Muraco host … it got worse.
8. The Flower Shop
“Adorable” Adrian Adonis
Underrated segment Adonis was a great heel and the flamboyant personality was TV gold … this was back when “no homo” didn’t exist and we just watched for entertainment … Those segments were hilarious Especially when Bobby Heenan and the Machines were on there
7. The Heartbreak Hotel
Shawn Michaels
Many people watching wrestling now wont remember HBK had his own interview segment, and it wasn’t bad at all. The set was classic … Heart shaped bed, giant mirror lol He had a neon Heartbreak Hotel sign. What made this different or better than so of the other shows was that HBK was really funny during it, I believe he was a heel while the segment ran too which helped
6. The Snake Pit
Jake “The Snake” Roberts
The set for The Snake Pit was great it had the look and the feel for something evil and sinister with Damien slithering around on the rock etc. I remember they showed the “Andre Belt” on the show when Hulk was going to wrestle him
5. Undertaker’s Funeral Parlor
Paul Bearer
This was an extra creepy segment, even more so than the snake pit, you had ghost white Paul Bearer and his urn really playing up Taker’s Reaper gimmick. Undertaker would come out of nowhere (most times a casket) and attack guests …locked The Ultimate warrior in a casket … sometimes Taker would get attacked on the show (Jake the Snake) still great all around
4. The Barber Shop
Brutus “The Barber” Beefcake
Not much needs to be said about this show because we all remember Marty Janetty going through the window. The other reason there’s not much to be said about this show is because not much else happened LOL It is probably the second most famous of all the WWF interview segments but by itself, it wasn’t very good …
3. Flair for Gold
Ric flair
When Flair the best talker in the business got his own talk show how could it go wrong? It didn’t it was great! The only reason it’s not number 1 because it wasn’t as popular as the previous 2 he had a bar and a maid shoutouts to fifi
2. The Brother Love Show
Brother Love
“I Looooove Yooooooou” This was the host and the segment people LOVED to hate, great heel … spreading “love” to the WWF masses
The Good guys had “No Love” and would always get ambushed by the Heels on the show, like when Rick Martel sprayed “Arrogance” in Jake the Snake’s face
Brother Love and his beet red face was hated by most (Loved by me) and always hilarious
1. Piper’s Pit
Rowdy Roddy Piper
The pinnacle of Wrestling interview segments, Piper was made for this (Much more so than wrestling) the angles and promos that occurred on the set was legendary
The Andre the Giant vs. Hulk Hogan WM feud and of course “The Coconut”
Remember these shows?
